The plans for Beeston’s redevelopment (originally introduced by Labour) are taking shape and I’m pleased to say that cross party unity continues. A cinema led regeneration, complimented with bars, restaurants and housing remains the preferred option for the square and we are now in the crucial stages of securing an agreement. This will pave the way for an exciting scheme to help invigorate the night time economy. Couple this with the need to secure a community type facility and an open, vibrant public realm space (I like the idea of dancing fountains like Market Square) and Beeston is certainly set for a fantastic transformation. Another piece of good news is the proposed mural for the brick wall (on the side of Birds Bakery). Following a suggestion by Broxtowe Labour, the council in conjunction with the Civic Society have looked at a series of exciting murals to promote the rich heritage of our town. The initial submissions look fantastic.
