Broxtowe Council: another year of achievement

Labour councillors are proud of their record as the major partner that has run Broxtowe Borough Council over the last four years.

Broxtowe’s remarkable success story has been working together as a team, with excellent council officers and a shared commitment to maintaining services. Despite suffering heavier cuts in grant support than any East Midlands local authority, Broxtowe has:

  • expanded its housing programme, including dementia-friendly bungalows in Beeston
  • not made any staff redundant
  • not raised the Council Tax levy
  • not evicted anyone as a result of the ‘bedroom tax.’
  • maintained the same level of support for voluntary groups
  • reinvested £500,000 from garden waste collection into frontline council services
  • committed to becoming a Dementia Friendly Community
  • actively addressed the widespread problem of loneliness by supporting community activities like Men in Sheds, community coffee mornings and Voluntary Action Broxtowe’s Befriending Scheme.
