One year ago, the UK witnessed the horror of the Grenfell fire. Despite Teresa May’s hollow words, Grenfell survivors still languish in hotels and only around 1 in 4 of those who have lost their home have been re-housed permanently.
Lets not forget this was about the rich and the poor, the haves and the have-nots. And as the scandal unfolds it is clear that this was an austerity tragedy.
Years of cuts under the Tories, privatisation, deregulation, relaxation of planning, lack of democratic accountability have all contributed. It is an outrage that a full year after the horrific scenes, victims and their families are still awaiting justice. We should demand justice and that those affected are re-housed immediately.
